This course is suited to people who:
- have a desire for personal care work.
- are looking for a course that combines online and face-to-face study methods.
- are new entrants seeking employment in the industry, or currently working in a personal care role.
- are currently residing in South Australia.
Enrolment requirements:
- participation in an upfront assessment of needs via phone interview and online skills assessment
- physical fitness to undertake manual handling and lifting safely
- access to (and the ability to use) a computer or device with word processing application (such as MS Word, Google Docs) PDF reader
- an internet connection, cookies enabled in your browser – we recommend Google Chrome
- An email account
- Access to a webcam or alternate method to interact with your trainer via video call for virtual classes
During your enrolment interview, we will discuss the above requirements, your training preferences, any support needs and your future aspirations in the industry.
Work Placement
If you’re not currently employed in a suitable job role, you will need to complete a 120-hour mandatory work placement which Pivot Training will source for you. The Certificate III in Individual Support qualification cannot be obtained without demonstrating industry requirements on the job. To participate in the mandatory 120-hour work placement you will need:
- relevant screenings including DCSI, Working with Vulnerable Persons Checks, Working with Children Checks, and National Police Checks
- COVID-19 vaccinations (most employers require them)
- up-to-date flu vaccinations for aged care work
- a current First Aid Certificate
Pivot Training can assist by directing you to websites and providing relevant information, but you are responsible for ensuring you meet these requirements. Costs for clearances, vaccinations and First Aid training are not included in the course cost and are to be obtained at your own expense.
Delivery options
Pivot Training provides a range of flexible options in the delivery of this qualification
Option 1 - New entrants to the industry
This 20-week full time delivery structure is suited to jobseekers, and people seeking a career change. Skills and knowledge are developed via
- weekly face-to-face workshops (2 days per week for 16 weeks)
- weekly online study (10 - 15 hours per week for 16 weeks)
- practical workshops in our simulated environment (included in workshop attendance)
- assessment activity via role plays and scenarios
- completion of workplace activities during 120 hours of work placement (undertaken on completion of all theory and practical activities)
Option 2 - Existing workers (currently working as a personal care/ support worker)
This part time delivery option is primarily online study and includes:
- regular virtual classes to support theory
- attendance at relevant practical workshops
- on-the-job visits in your workplace to support assessment activity
- completion of work place activities
- flexibility to undertake training around your work commitments
Option 3 - School Students (excludes SA Government school students)
Delivery to school students can be undertaken over 12 - 18 months and will be scheduled in consultation with the students, parent/guardian and the VET Coordinator. Skills and knowledge are developed via:
- online learning materials
- virtual classes relating to learning materials
- regular practical workshops, including school holiday intensive workshops in our simulated environment
- role lays and scenarios
- completion of work placement activities
- regular progress reporting to VET coordinators
- flexible delivery to work around school commitments

$472.50 concession, $750.00 non-concession.

Qualification Outline
The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is made up of 15 units of competency. With Pivot Training you can select to undertake training an ageing or disability specialisation. Our most popular option is to undertake the Ageing and Disability specialisation, providing employment flexibility across a range of service providers. Your preference will be discussed with you on enrolment.

Outcome
Upon successful completion of all qualification requirements, you will be issued one of the following qualifications, depending on elective selection

A statement of attainment for partial completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support will be issued for all completed units of competency where full qualification requirements are not achieved.
